OLD FORGE, NY… Old Forge is set to celebrate Labor Day weekend Sept 2-5th with fireworks on Sunday, September 4th, the CAP-PY Duck Derby, a car raffle, fireworks and more.
The CAP-PY Duck Derby fundraiser is back! The derby offers popular prizes such as overnight packages, kayaks, dinners, and Broadway show tickets. The race event begins at 12:30pm Sunday at the Moose River adjacent to the Adirondack Bank building. Come and join the fun with music, grilled hotdogs, face painting, corn hole and the excitement swirling around the event. Adopt a single duck for $5 or a “Flock of 5” ducks for $20 and cheer them on, as the speediest duck can win you one of 18 wonderful prizes donated by our generous local business owners. Starting mid-June through Labor Day weekend, ducks can be adopted through Labor Day weekend at the Friday Old Forge Farmers Market or at the Old Forge Visitor Information Center. All proceeds go towards LivingADK in our mission to promote healthy, vibrant and growing communities in the West Central Adirondacks. Since 2010, Living ADK powered by CAP-21 has facilitated $11 million in grant funding for communities and businesses in Forestport, Otter Lake, Thendara, Old Forge, Inlet, Indian Lake and Long Lake.
The evening festivities at the Old Forge Lakefront Park start at 7 pm, with live entertainment. The concert and following fireworks are sponsored by the CAA. Prior to the fireworks show, the winners will be drawn for the CAA Annual Car Raffle. The raffle is the primary fundraiser for the Central Adirondack Association, and provides support for CAA-sponsored community events.
Labor Day Weekend also is the last chance to visit Enchanted Forest Water Safari before it closes for the season. The park’s last day of operation is Monday, September 5. Adirondack Scenic Railroad will be in operation and the McCauley Mountain Scenic Chairlift ride will be operating all weekend, including Monday, and will continue its fall schedule through Columbus Day. VIEW Arts and the Strand Theatre provide entertainment no matter what the weather. The Strand Theater also features a magic show with Illusionist Leon Etienne Thursday – Sunday.
